Eventhough he is one of the most powerful Orishas, Aganyu is not very well known by the majority of Santeros. He is the god of volcanos and Chango's father through a brief encounter with Yemmu, one of Obatala's female aspects.
Aganyu and his son Chango are very close. You can only receive Aganyu through the initiation of Chango. Also when Chango is received Aganyu has to be honored in a special ceremony. Aganyu's colors are red and green and his numbers six and four, In Santeria he is identified with Saint Christopher.
His necklaces are of brown beads with an ocasional pearl, blue turqoise and red. He wears dark red clothing. His children are powerful violent men quick to anger, though they are disarmed by tenderness. They are friendly to children and are victims of fragile looking women, who know how to take advantage of them.
